ABSTRACT In Malaysia, edible garden concept becoming popular among, the urban community due to several factor such as "Kempen Bumi Hijau" promoted by the Goverment and acceptance of edible landscape as an alternative to decorate their backyard concurrent with reducing kitchen expenses. To produce high and quality yield, agronomic practices such as fertilization, irrigation, pests and disease protection should be applied properly. However, most of the growers have limited time to manage their crops, thus practical method or input is crucial to overcome the limitation. Hence fertilization is so important to supply adequate plant nutrient, effect of control release fertilizer (RH GROWPINE 1) on yield of Brassica sp should be observe because it able to release nutrients gradually into the soil just at once application compared with standard practices fertilizers required 3-4 times application. The result revealed there was significantly different at p< 0.05 between yields of Brasscica sp. when compared with compound fertilizer application. It indicates there was a potential to use RH GROWPINE 1 for Brassica spp.cultivation.

INTRODUCTION RH-GROWPINE is a control release fertilizer with several NPK ratios as listed in the table 1. The specialty of this fertilizer is due to control release mechanism which can be exploited for different crops requirement.

Nutrien release of this fertilizer is depending on atmosphere humidity, moisture from irrigation or rainning and also from soil micro-bacteria activities. The nutrien will be release consistenly for plant uptake and at the same reduce the nutrient loss from leaching and soil run-off. The application of RH GROWPINE expected to supply adequate plant nutrient without reducing yield and plant quality. In this study, the effectiveness of GROWPINE for leafy vegetables will be evaluated as preliminary data for minor formulation adjusment subjected to yield and quality performance of Brassica spp.
MATERIALS AND METHODS The experiment was carried out using self watering container (GREEN KIT) under shade house condition at MARDI Sintok, Kedah in 2013. The leafy vegetable tested in this study was Brassica junceand the treatments were T1= RH GROWPINE 1 with 8 plants per container, T2= RH GROWPINE 1 with 6 plants per container, T3= NPK 15:15:15 with 8 plants per container and T4= NPK 15:15:15 with 6 plants per container (Control). Each treatment was replicated 5 times respectively. The number of nugget for T1 and T2 was maintained to 6 nuggets per container whereas 5 g of NPK 15:15:15 was applied twice for T3 and T4 throughout the study. The agronomic data recorded data were analyzed using Statistical Analysis Software (SAS) version 9.2 at P ≤ 0.05.
RESULTS AMD DISCUSSION
Table 2 showed that there were significances different at P ≤ 0.05 in fresh leaf weight, fresh root weight and root volume except for dry root weight. It revealed that RH GROWPINE 1 have potential to provide plant nutrient for Brassica spp. It also indicates that the control release fertilizer is more efficient in term of nutrient release compared with compound fertilizer due to its suitability for standard and high density planting. It can be conclude that of RH Growpine 1 is suitable fo Brassica spp and suitable either for standard planting or high density planting without significance different in term of yield produces.
